Radiation Portal Monitor Program

K2 Security Screening Group was awarded a five-year, indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract with a ceiling value of approximately $253 million contract by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD) to deploy technology designed to detect and prevent nuclear and radiological material or devices from entering the United States.

The Radiation Portal Monitor Program (RPMP) project entails the installation of radiation portal monitors across the US-Mexico and US-Canada borders and at international airports, seaports, and global postal facilities, in support of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

The K2 team, which includes Parsons Corporation (NYSE: PSN) and Culmen International, performs site surveys and designs, equipment installation, configuration management, and commissioning. The team brings extraordinary capabilities for the development of threat reduction systems, integration of security screening technologies, as well as program and logistics management, procurement, and construction.

Critical National Security Programs

K2 Security Screening Group has partnered with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) since its creation following the 9/11 attacks. Our involvement includes substantial nationwide projects with Leidos, Lockheed Martin, and Raytheon for the Strategic Airport Security Roll-out (SASR) program, the Security Equipment Systems Integration (SESI) program, and the Transportation Equipment Deployment Services (TEDS) program.

Our deployments have included project management, engineering, design, site preparation, and electrical installation. K2 also has managed improvement of existing checkpoints through new screening technologies, safety advancements, and operational upgrades. For the last 20 years, the TSA has trusted K2 on every phase of security screening projects for multi-airport, multi-checkpoint project deployments.

LaGuardia Airport
Terminal B

K2 Security Screening Group played a key role in the enormous $4 billion redesign of LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B. During this 4-year, multi-phased project, K2 planned, installed, and integrated the new consolidated security checkpoint, and then decommissioned the Terminal’s former checkpoints in record time.

As part of this project, K2 delivered and installed 14 Leidos SmartLane automated screening lanes integrated with x-ray systems; two standard x-ray lanes; 8 Rohde & Schwarz on-person screening systems; and 8 walk-through metal detectors.

Extensive coordination and flawless execution were required to meet the airport’s strict deadline, while at the same time implementing COVID-19 health and safety protocols.  K2 leads the way in site integration projects that must be completed on time, even under difficult circumstances.

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
South Terminal

K2 Security Screening Group worked with the Atlanta Airport, Analogic Corporation, and Leidos to deliver the new South Terminal checkpoint.

As Site Integrator, K2 performed site surveys, decommissioned the old equipment, and prepared the renovated checkpoint for 9 new security lanes. This included shipping, rigging in, and installing 8 Analogic CT X-Ray machines and 5 automated screening lanes to speed traffic flows.

Los Angeles International Airport
Terminal 1.5

K2 Security Screening Group augmented the general contractor’s design services and installed 5 automated screening lanes and 1 conventional screening lane in Southwest Airlines’/Los Angeles World Airport’s new Terminal 1.5.

K2’s oversight included international equipment procurement, shipping via sea transport, and warehousing prior to installation. In addition, we developed and managed a tight schedule to meet all milestones on time and within budget. K2 sets the standard for beginning-to-end TSA checkpoint deployments.

Deadhorse Alaska (SCC) Airport

K2 Security Screening Group also provides security screening solutions for smaller airports.

At Deadhorse Airport, we relocated the TSA checkpoint from the Alaska Airlines Passenger Terminal to the Deadhorse Aviation Center. This project included handling equipment manufactured by Rapiscan Systems, Smiths Detection, and CEIA.
